OAKLAND POLICE DEPARTMENT DECIDES TO BEEF UP ON COPS FOR NEW YEARS

If you're looking for a cop this New Year's Eve, you might try a BART station.

Hundreds of extra cops - including BART officers, Oakland police, and sheriff's deputies from San Francisco and Contra Costa County - are being called either to ride BART or patrol its stations into the early morning hours.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office will add extra patrols to AC Transit, and many local East Bay law enforcement agencies have also agreed to be available on standby.

The beefed-up presence is in reaction to last year's fatal shooting of Oscar Grant, an unarmed passenger who was killed by a BART cop while being held facedown on a station platform at 2 a.m. New Year's Day.

The shooting capped a night of cat-and-mouse between cops and rowdy young partiers returning from San Francisco. In the days that followed, a pair of protests in downtown Oakland resulted in damage to scores of businesses and cars and more than 100 arrests.

Oakland police - who bore the brunt of the post-shooting mayhem - plan to be out in full force on BART and elsewhere throughout the entire weekend, with just about every sworn officer being called in.

"We want to make sure we have the resources available to us at a moment's notice," said Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason.

As for dealing with New Year's revelers, BART plans to add as many as 26 trains to get crowds out of San Francisco as fast as possible and before any trouble starts. The system will run until about 3 a.m. instead of the usual midnight shutdown.

BUJU BANTON'S LABEL STAND BEHIND HIM 100%

Gargamel Music Incorporated has announced their full support for their star reggae artist Buju Banton, who was arrested December 10 on federal drug conspiracy charges.

According to Gargamel president Tracii McGregor, Banton will be provided with top legal service representation from David Oscar Markus, who is a veteran of many high-profile drug cases including that of former Panama military dictator Manuel Noriega.

Markus is set to replace Banton’s current attorney Herbert Walker III, who represented the singer for his initial court appearance.

“It’s on and popping. Walker has never really been our attorney,” McGregor explained to CaribWorldNews.com. “This is Buju and we’re going to get him the top legal representation there is. We are ready to fight. I saw him yesterday and told him to go inward and preserve you.”

Banton, real name Mark Anthony Myrie, was indicted last Tuesday (December 15) with two other men for allegedly attempting to distribute at least five kilograms of cocaine.

Before his arrest, Banton was having a highly successful year, receiving a Grammy nomination for his latest album Rasta Got Soul.

A video for the trackjavascript:void(0) “Optimistic Soul” was recently completed.

Last Wednesday (December 16), Banton waived his bail hearing right and will face trial in Tampa, Florida. If convicted, he faces a minimum of 20 years to life in prison.

Trick Daddy Talks Trina and The Release of His New Book

Rapper Trick Daddy expressed his feelings on working with fellow rapper Trina in a recent interview with AllHipHop.com.

The Miami, Florida, native, who was originally known as Trick Daddy Dollars dropped his debut album Based on a True Story in 1997.

The Trick Daddy-Trina duo was first introduced on his hit single "Nann N***a," a popular track which helped solidify the latest male-female rap tag team’s position in the game.

The pair’s relationship has cooled since Trick Daddy left Slip-N-Slide Records, the label where both artists started their careers.

"I need you to call Trina and you need to talk to her,” Trick Daddy told AllHipHop.com. “I personally think that Trina is a better Trina with Trick…I would love to work with Trina. I was actually talking…the other day about even just doing some songs, giving it to her and say okay this is what we’re gonna do.”

Slip-N-Slide recently entered into a new deal with EMI label services to market, promote and distribute Trina’s upcoming 5th solo album.

In related news, Trick Daddy also revealed that he is almost "98 percent" finished on a book scheduled to be released at the top of next year via MTV/Pocket Books.

Trick Daddy, born Maurice Young, is putting the finishing touches on his autobiography, titled Magic City: Trials Of A Native Son.

"The book is my lifestyle and what I've seen,” Trick Daddy said of the upcoming book. “It’s like the autobiography of the whole Miami, before me and while I'm here. It's the Scarface, The King of New York, The First 48, all the things you've ever heard about Miami all in a bubble. All raw, it's real and respectable to the point it will make you think, so that's how it was. It's 98 percent wrapped, pressed, and ready to go, said Trick Daddy.”

Trick Daddy will next make an appearance on DJ Khaled and E-Class’ compilation album Live From the 305, which is scheduled to drop in October.

Hit Rapper/Producer Ron Browz Off Universal Motown

Harlem, New York producer/rapper Ron Browz recently revealed to AllHipHop.com that he has split from his label, Universal Motown.

According to Browz, he could not see eye-to-eye with the label, despite experiencing success in 2009, including two BET Award nominations for hit records he recorded.

Browz, who produced classic tracks by rappers like Big L, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, DMX and Nas, was signed to Universal Motown via his own imprint, Ether Boy Records.

Since signing with Universal Motown in September of 2008, Browz produced three massive hit singles: the collaborative track “Pop Champagne” featuring Jim Jones, “Jumpin’ Out the Window” and “Arab Money” featuring Busta Rhymes.

“Currently me and Universal decided it was best for us to part ways as far as business, because little creative differences,” Browz told AllHipHop.com exclusively. “I love Sylvia [Rhone]. Sylvia was the first person to give me an opportunity to show the world what I could as far as being an artist.”

Browz, born Rondell Turner, is continuing on with his career, while negotiating with various recording companies for his next deal.

The rapper recently shot a video for his new single “$20 Dollarz,” which should be released in the next two weeks.

The remix to the track features OJ Da Juiceman, Jim Jones, Shawty Lo, Nicki Minaj and a new verse by fellow Harlemite, Mase.

On the production side, Browz recently produced “She’s A Killer” on Ghostface’s new album The Wizard of Poetry, Nicki Minaj’s new track “Get Crazy” and an upcoming tune by crooner Bobby Valentino.

Browz, who used the controversial Autotune technology on his two biggest hits, as well as the track he just produced for Ghostface’s Wizard album, shared his opinion on the voice enhancing effect.

“People criticized it, but you can’t deny hot records,” Browz told AllHipHop.com. “All these records was crazy in the club. And the funny thing is, after D.O.A., it seemed like more Autotune records came out after the record came out.”

Ron Browz is currently working on his major label solo debut.

Jim Jones Pleads Guilty To Assaulting Ne-Yo's Manager

Harlem, New York rapper Jim Jones entered into a guilty plea in relation to a scuffle inside of the Louis Vuitton store in New York city last December.

Jones plead guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge earlier today (October 5) in Manhattan Criminal Court after being accused of assaulting Ne-Yo’s manager Jayvon Smith.

According to Jones’ attorney Scott Leemon, the rapper was sentenced to time served, based on the time he spent incarcerated shortly after the arrest in January.

Jones pled guilty in order to avoid probation, which could have interfered with his ability to tour, Leemon stated.

The rapper originally pleaded not guilty to the charges last February and initially denied his involvement in the altercation with Smith, which happened in the pricey store last December 22.

THE ORIGINAL BOSS RETURNS

I am hearing strong words that the original Freeway is out. The original Rick Ross is out. That's right. The infamous Freeway Ricky Ross has been released from jail, according to sources that I have. I wonder how this will affect the whole rap nation of trappers? The king is out and he's a changed man. In the 80's Freeway RR was pushing that white up and down the streets of LA to a tune of $3 million a week. The crazy thing is that Freeway Rick is about 50 years old. Dude has a lot more life in him. I hope he can reach out to the youth and tell them this ain't the way in a way rapper refuse. Even still, I hope he tells of the connection between him and the CIA and how they pumped those drugs in the 'hood for money....ahhhhhh...let me shut up. Look up the story.

THE CLIPSE'S MALICE PLANS TO DROP NEW BOOK, "IT GIVES YOU AN INSIDE LOOK OF THE INDUSTRY"

The Clipse's Malice has announced plans to take his pen game to book stores with the upcoming release of Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind and Naked.

According to Malice, the book should hit shelves by the end of 2009.
"People know what the Clipse content is about -- what we've been talking about over the years," he said about the project. "But we like to paint both sides of the picture and give you the pros and the cons and just to let you know that it's not all glorious and sometimes you lose. The intention is to have the book out at the top of the year, after the album. We're speaking with a few people now but it's gonna be major publishing. It's an awesome book that's nothing short of phenomenal. It gives you an inside look of the Clipse, the industry, the things that we've been through and a very personal look at my private life.

DIDDY & MASE DEAD PAST ISSUES, "HE CALLED ME ONE DAY & SAID HE WANTED TO APOLOGIZE

Diddy recently spoke on accepting an apology from Bad Boy protege Mase and explained why the rapper-turned-preacher's contract complications were not based on any wrongdoing from his end.

Diddy also said Shyne will not be contractually obligated to Bad Boy Entertainment upon his release from prison this month.
"We definitely reunited as friends, he called me and one day said he wanted to apologize for a lot of things we had been through," Diddy explained in an interview. "And I totally accepted his apology. A lot of people didn't understand the hold-up with his contract and everything is that he decided to break out and become a preacher, God bless Mase...I've spoken to [Shyne]. He's not contractually obligated to Bad Boy, but I talked to him more about personal things, not business."

JUVENILE ON YOUNG BUCK & UTP REUNION, "I'M NEVER GONNA SHY AWAY FROM TRYING TO DO BUSINESS"

With the emergence of Young Buck on a number of mixtapes as of late, Juvenile recently kicked back with SOHH to discuss the possibility of a UTP reunion with the former G-Unit member.

In addition to speaking on the chances of coming back together, Juvie also discussed how appreciative he was toward 50 Cent for allowing Buck to join the Unit around 2003.
"Yeah, I'm cool, I'm a business man," Juvenile said about a possible UTP reunion. "First of all, I want people to understand that and I am the owner of UTP. I want people to understand that I'm never gonna shy away from trying to do business. I was really the big push for Buck going to 50 because me and 50 was real cool and I looked at it like, 'Man, you could help me out by helping my dude because I can't really do nothin' for him right now. I was having a paper work crisis in that era when 50 came out and I did everything for 50 and I'm glad to see you on top, you know what I'm saying, and he said something good about me in his book, I appreciate that. It's all love with me, bruh. I like to see cats come up, I'm not on that kick, trying to bring a cat down, I get mad when somebody try to bring me down. That's the only problem we'll get out of it. I've seen Buck, I've done shows with Buck. We done got our puff on, it was cool, no problems."

IS THIS JAY-Z'S SON?

Jay-Z, Will Smith Back $11 Mil "Fela" Play

Rappers Jay-Z and Will Smith are among the investors in a Broadway play about the life of Nigerian singer/activist Fela Kuti.

The heavyweight Hip-Hop duo are backing an $11 million dollar production of Bill. T. Jones' musical "Fela," which will open in November.

The original version of the play opened off-Broadway last September, starring actor Sahr Ngaujah, who will reprise his critically acclaimed role as Fela Kuti.

Financial concerns due to the recession briefly halted production of the play, which was written and co-produced by Steve Hendel.

Tony Award winner Bill T. Jones choreographs and directs "Fela" using the pioneering Afro-Beat style of music Kuti created with his Black-Panther inspired group, Africa 70.

Kuti was one of Africa’s most well known musicians and activists and was eventually imprisoned and released by the Nigerian government on a currency smuggling charge.

The singer died in 1997 due to complications from AIDS.

The 2-hour "Fela" play is slated to debut at the Eugene O’Neill theater on October 19 and will run until April 4.

Box office opens September 28th, while previews of the play start October 19th.

R. KELLY PERFORMING NUMBER ONE

LIL WAYNE'S "HURRICANE" TO STORM INTO THEATERS, MOVIE RECEIVES FINANCIAL BACKING

Lil Wayne's Hurricane Season film, which co-stars Forest Whitaker and Bow Wow, will reportedly be headed to the big screen after suffering multiple delays and budget difficulties.

According to reports, the film will now receive financial backing and avoid a straight-to-video release.
Back in June we exclusively reported that Hurricane Season, the basketball film starring Bow Wow, Forest Whitaker and Lil Wayne was being shelved by the Weinstein Company because the film studio could not afford to market and distribute it. At that time, The Weinstein's were facing dire financial hardship and had invested a big part of their theatrical marketing spend in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds. If Tarantino's film failed, films like Hurricane Season would go from shelved to sold off in a matter of months, Inglorious Basterds will turn a profit as it already has grossed over $140 million world-wide and cost $70 million to make. So what does this mean for Hurricane Season? It means The Weinsteins will have replenished funds to release and market a select few of their upcoming titles and we have the exclusive drop that Hurricane Season is one of them that will be resurrected.

NIKKI MINAJ BECOMES YOUNG MONEY'S FIRST LADY

Nicki Minaj has officially inked a deal with Lil Wayne’s Young Money imprint.

She joins the Young Money roster after releasing several critically acclaimed mixtapes, including her most recent, Beam Me Up Scotty.

The mixtape featured vocals by artists like Busta Rhymes, Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne and fellow Young Money artist Drake.

Although Nicki Minaj is featured on the Young Money Presents: America’s Most Wanted Festival, it wasn’t until today that the label broke the news that she was signed as an artist on the roster.

"I am honored to have Nicki Minaj as Young Money's First Lady,” Lil Wayne said in a press release. “She is a star."

Like her label mate Drake, Nicki Minaj’s independent work laid the ground work for a lucrative deal with Young Money/Universal Motown.

Under the new deal, Minaj owns and retains all of her 360 rights, including publishing, merchandising, sponsorships and endorsement deals.

"To say I'm excited would be an understatement. It's validation. It's proof. It's empowerment. I represent every little girl in a hood near you,” Nicki Minaj stated. “To everyone that supported me two years ago when I was on underground mix-tapes and DVDs and to the people that only caught on two weeks ago, I say thank you. Be proud of yourself. You've given girls all around the world the permission to change the face of female rap."

Nicki Minaj’s major label debut, which is slated to drop in 2010, will be distributed through Young Money/Universal Motown.

A SKETCH OF THE JORDAN 2010'S

PRINCE IS BACK IN COURT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Singer “Prince” is in the news due to a lawsuit he filed in June. “Prince” moved out of the home he rented in Beverly Hills, he left behind a $300,000 security deposit. “3121 Rep Inc.,” the company that claimed to have brokered the lease for “Prince,” has sued the owners to get the money back. But the owners say “Prince” made all the payments himself – “3121” was just an intermediary -- so the money should go straight to him. Now the two sides are suing each other, with “Prince” caught in the middle – “3121” wants the money they says is theirs, the owners just want their attorney's fees paid.

QUEEN LATIFAH? PAUL ABDUL’S REPLACEMENT!

Looks like Simon isn’t playing at all. What I am getting is that they are moving on replacing Paula really fast – straight up! Now, you know they aren’t playing when they pull Victoria Beckham out! Simon is reportedly very good friends with Vick and want her on the show. On the flip side, I heard she is merely a one-time, one show replacement – not for the whole season. Not too bad. Vicky can’t sing too well anyway.

On the other side, I am hearing that Queen Latifah might be the one that will truly fill Paula’s seat. She’s got that kind-heatrted flavor going on too so it might work.

Paula’s got a lil’ trick up her sleave….rumor has it, she might go to “Dancing With The Stars.” You may not know, but she is an accomplished dancer that used to choreographed for the likes of Janet Jackson.

RUMOR HAS IT!!!!!! Gucci Mane in Rehab

The legal affairs of Gucci Mane are enough for a full section on this site. It seems we are constantly trying to catch up with his arrests, court dates, probation violations and all sorts of other f***ery that is encompassed in the world of Gucci. A few weeks ago it was widely reported that Gucci had once again pee pee’d dirty on his probation test and therefore was again locked up. However while it was not true that he was in jail he did violate his probation and his lawyers had to work out some deal to keep him free.

Well I am hearing the deal they struck involves Gucci going to rehab for a period of 2 months. That is why we haven’t seen much of him on the concert tip and no new web videos. I’m told Gucci has been in the rehab facility in rural Georgia for the past week or so and will continue to be there for at least another month.

This guy is just crazy, in my opinion. It must be some insanely enticing weed this guy is getting his hands on for him to risk all this for it. Whatever it is I just know I want some of it…

Former Member of Diddy's "Band" Arrested For Stabbing

Sara Stokes, a former member of Hip-Hop group Da Band, was arrested last week for domestic violence in Moreno Valley, California.

According to TMZ.com, Stokes was arrested by police after she was involved in a physical altercation with her husband.

Stokes and her husband Tony fought on August 2. During the argument, Stokes stormed out of the house when she tripped and fell. She accused her husband of him of doing it and allegedly stabbed him in the arm as her three children watched.

Stokes was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence, although the District Attorney is deciding whether charges will be filed or not. Stokes was discovered by Sean “Diddy” Combs on the hit MTV reality show, Making Da Band 2.

The group, which also included Dylinjah, Chopper, Babs Bunny, E-Ness and Freddy P., released one album, Too Hot For TV in 2003.

Since then Stokes has dabbled in acting and reportedly developing a new make up line called SASS.

HAMMER OWES THE STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The state of California has placed three tax liens on rapper/reality star show/preacher MC Hammer. Hammer, born Stanley Burrell and his wife reportedly owe over $600,000 in back taxes to the state. In May, a tax lien was filed against Hammer and his wife Stephanie for $32,926, while another one was filed in June in the amount of $12,464. Just last month a third lien was placed against the couple in the amount of $625,792. Hammer is currently starring in his own reality show Hammertime on A&E. Hammer is not alone. Other notables that owe the struggling state of California include Snoop Dogg, Burt Reynolds, Dionne Warwick, Janice Dickerson, comedian Sinbad and a man by the name of Winson Lee, who owes the state a whopping $10 million dollars.

C-Murder Found Guilty; Verdict Not Accepted

A New Orleans jury has found Corey “C-Murder” Miller guilty of second-degree murder, in relation to January 12, 2002 death of 16-year-old Steve Thomas.

The jury reached a verdict earlier this morning, although the judge has order them to continue to deliberate as one juror may have been in a rush to end the trial.

A jury of seven women and five men told Judge Hans Liljeberg they were deadlocked over Miller's guilt regarding the shooting death of the teenager during a dispute in Club Platinum, a defunct nightclub in Harvey.

Around 3:00 PM yesterday, the jury told Judge Hans Liljeberg that they were deadlocked after deliberating for about three hours, in a case that only took a week to try.

Judge Liljeberg ordered them to continue deliberating stating that he had juries with lessor charges deliberate for over eight hours.

Prosecutors wrapped up their closing arguments to the jury around 10:00 am, while Miller’s attorney finished his around 10:40 AM yesterday.

The jury asked Judge Hans Liljeberg to clarify the definition of second-degree murder twice during their deliberations.

The trial comes seven years after Thomas’ death, who would have been 23-years-old this year.

Miller was convicted of second-degree murder in September of 2003, but the verdict was overturned in Louisiana Supreme Court, after it was revealed that prosecutors expunged several witnesses’ criminal backgrounds in hopes of boosting their credibility.

Under Louisiana law, Miller must serve a mandatory sentence of life in prison if he is found guilty.

JAY-Z WARNS THE GAME ABOUT TAUNTS, "I COULD WAKE UP TOMORROW & JUST REALLY GO RIGHT IN"

Jay-Z has addressed The Game's recent taunts and disses towards him and said while he is giving the rapper a temporary pass, things could easily change on a case-by-case basis.

Speaking with radio personality Big Boy, Jay attempted to explain why The Game has been reacting negatively towards him despite not being dissed.
"I think he's been posturing for this thing for a while," Jay explained. "I guess he just took the fact that I said I'm not talking about him which is not a diss at all. I figured that was his opportunity, he's going on tour and he's promoting, or buzz or marketing or however people feel they need attention these days. So it's no real problems behind it, it's no real challenge behind it. With the Nas thing, that was a real thing, it wasn't done because of any marketing or anything like that. RUMOR: LIL WAYNE MAY NOT BE THE FATHER TO ACTRESS LAUREN LONDON'S CHILD

We just learned that rapper Lil Wayne may already have some baby mama’s drama on his hands.

By now you’ve probably heard by now, Lil Wayne is expecting two children this fall from two women - R&B singer Nivea and actress Lauren London.

Well now it’s not so clear. We just learned that people close to Lil Wayne are questioning whether one of the children – the one being carried by Lauren London - is in fact Wayne’s.

And there’s more, our insider claims that people close to Wayne – including his ex-wife Toya and his soon-to-be baby’s mother Nivea are suspicious of the child’s paternity - And they’re begging the platinum selling rapper to get a DNA test as soon as the child’s born

Why are they so concerned? Well word on the street is that Nivea and Lauren are both EXACTLY 8 months pregnant. And Nivea was supposedly spending a ton of time with Weezy around the time she conceived.

So far though, we’re told that Lil Wayne is refusing to take the test. The insider claims, “He thinks he’s sure so he doesn’t want to take the test.”

Earliest Tupac Recordings Surface In Upcoming Album

Thirteen years after his death, Tupac Shakur’s first Hip-Hop recordings will now become available through a forthcoming album entitled Shakurspeare.

The project is the brainchild of Darrin Keith Bastfield, CEO of Born Busy Records. Bastfield was one of Shakur’s early collaborators, and the two formed a group together called Born Busy when a 16-year old Tupac first began to rap.

For long-time fans, the album will offer the first glimpses of Tupac’s Hip-Hop journey, back when he was known by his first rap name of MC New York.

"I was there when Tupac heard himself for the first time rapping on a recording. As he sat in the cafeteria of the Baltimore School for the Arts it was as if he couldn’t believe that he was listening to himself,” Bastfield told AllHipHop.com. “Just as Tupac was quietly amazed by hearing himself, I want people to hear Tupac as a young artist in his very first recordings ever having fun, rapping about issues that concerned us, and most importantly giving a cautionary and timely ‘Message of Peace’ in his own voice as if he was already a big rap star with a reputation to uphold.”

The title Shakurspeare is an allusion to a conversation between Bastfield and a 17 year-old Shakur, where the aspiring emcee revealed that he dreamed of becoming as renowned Shakespearean actor.

The LP cover will illuminate this motif by having a Bastfield oil painting depicting Shakur as Shakespeare.

"This project was a very spiritual undertaking for me, but most importantly it is about creating art and being educational. The vocals to the songs we wrote were all recorded accapella in 1988 on a cassette tape,” Bastfield explained. “Through technology the vocals were able be extracted, digitally mastered, and put to contemporary music that was produced in 2008. I wanted to keep the recordings as close to the vein of our ideas from back in the day. As far as new material to assist with the concept of the album as being like an audio documentary, I chose to work with producers and artists in my own backyard which are native of Baltimore, Maryland which includes International Jazz recording artist Maysa. My life and times with Tupac Shakur all happened in Baltimore, so I wanted the spirit of the Shakurspeare album, just as the book, to stay consistent.”

The new album will mark Bastifield’s second Tupac Shakur project. In 2002, he released the book Back in the Day: My Life and Times with Tupac Shakur through One World/Ballantine.

At press time, Shakurspeare will be released digitally on September 13 through Born Busy Records.

Jay-Z: 'Time For Me to Lay My Blueprint on a Generation'

“I always wanted to finish the series because the first In My Lifetime series…you know I had three of those so I wanted to do three Blueprints,” Jay-Z said. “I didn’t really have a direction and I didn’t want to just do it for the sake of just naming an album Blueprint. So as time passed, I finally got direction and it made sense to bring the trilogy to its end, you know.”

The pending release of The Blueprint 3 comes years after the arrival of 2001’s The Blueprint and it’s 2002 follow-up The Blueprint 2: The Gift and the Curse.

Both albums included a string of classic singles such as “Takeover,” “You Don’t Know,” “ Izzo (H.O.V.A.),” “Song Cry,” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” “’03 Bonnie and Clyde” and “Excuse Me Miss.”

“[On] this one, we’re pretty much becoming the icons that we looked up to. All the Sinatra’s and the Marvin Gaye’s and all those people that we looked up to. So I felt it was time for us to lay our blueprint or for me to lay my blueprint on a generation. Especially now with the way sales are going down and everything and how people being forced to make one type of music because they trying to get on the radio."

Jay-Z also confessed to anticipating the reaction given to the album’s first single “D.O.A. (Death of Autotune).”

Since it’s release, the tune has generated reaction from fans and artists concerning the use of the autotune device in many of today’s current hits.

“It’s not like I hate autotune,” Jay-Z admitted. “ I mean I like records, some records with autotune. I just don’t wanna hear 1,000 records with autotune. It’s just too much.”

Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3 is slated to hit stores on September 11.

Nas Ordered To Pay $40k in Support for Kelis and Child

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Louis Meisinger also ruled that Nas will have to pay Kelis’ $45,000 lawyer and forensic accountant fees.

Nas’ lawyer Mark Kaplan requested that Kelis be paid a $20,000 payment until the September hearing, but Judge Meisinger argued that the singer was entitled to maintain her marriage lifestyle, and that the monetary judgment was commensurate with the two parties’ income filings.

In addition, Kelis will have 30 days to decide whether to return to the couple’s Los Angeles property, which Nas is paying for.

Kelis’ high-powered divorce attorney Laura Wasser defended the ruling, stating that Kelis’ income has significantly dropped this year.

She also confirmed that her client is searching for a new label home.

Originally, Kelis reportedly was seeking $80,000 a month in total spousal and child support.

According to court records, Nas' monthly contributions will be $30,471 to Kelis in temporary spousal support, and $9,027 to his newborn son Knight.

Nas was last seen on Tuesday night celebrating the birth of the couple’s son at an all-star Queensbridge concert.

At press time, neither Nas or Kelis could be reached for comment.

Hip-Hop star Nas is currently celebrating the birth of his son, although sources close to the rapper told AllHipHop.com that he was not allowed to witness the event.

Nas' lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan stated that Nas rushed to the hospital to witness Kelis deliver his first son today (July 21).

A source close to Nas told AllHipHop.com that the Queen's rapper missed the actual child birth.

“Nas is in New York City today, anxiously awaiting the arrival of his son. It was his intention to be there for the birth, but unfortunately he has not been allowed to be present,” a source close to the rapper told AllHipHop.com. “While this is clearly heartbreaking to him, Nas continues to offer his support and love to his new baby boy and his mother.”

Nas and Kelis were due in court today in regards to their pending divorce, specifically child and spousal support.

The date had to be postponed when Kelis, born Kelis Rogers , went into labor, around 10:30 this morning.

Nas and Kelis were married in January of 2005 after being engaged for two years.

Kelis filed for divorce in April of 2009, citing irreconcilable differences.

BET Bans Willy Northpole's "No. 1 Side Chick" Video, "'Every Girl' Can Get Played & We Can't?"

Ludacris protege Willy Northpole has reportedly had his new "#1 Side Chick" video banned from BET due to the controversial sexual subject matter.

The rapper's manager, Tiffany Johnson, has confirmed BET's decision and questioned why videos like Drake's "Best I Ever Had" were able to be aired on the network.

Johnson says BET didn't like how the video portrays a man in a relationship with two women. Johnson says there's no anger in Northpole's camp toward BET, but the channel's decision "Kind of hurt, because they've shown a lot worse," she says. "I don't know how they can say we're portraying something unwholesome, because the video ends with the man marrying one of the women. I feel our video is tasteful. We were kind of offended. My first thought was 'Every Girl in the World' can get played, and we can't?".

Remy Ma's Lawyer Avoids Jail Over Tax Violations

The lawyer who represented imprisoned rapper Remy Ma avoided prison time after he pleaded guilty to federal tax violations. Ivan Fisher, 65, defended Remy Ma during her 2008 trial for shooting a friend in the stomach outside of a Manhattan nightclub, during an argument over missing money.
Fisher pleaded guilty to failing to pay $52,000 in withholding taxes on his employee’s wages. By pleading guilty to a tax code violation, Fisher avoided a year in prison. He must pay $68,000 in back taxes, as well as a $10,000 criminal fine.
In March of 2008, Fisher’s client Remy Ma was convicted and sentenced to eight years

Joe Jackson Believes "Foul Play" Killed Michael

Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson's father, said that he felt that his son’s death might be the result of “foul play.”

"I just couldn't believe what was happening to Michael. I do believe it was foul play. I do believe that. Yes,” Jackson told ABC News.

A second autopsy on the “King of Pop” has yet to offer any conclusive answers.

Toxicology results have yet to come in, and The L.A. County coroner's office will wait for them before formally listing Michael Jackson’s cause of death. The LAPD is looking specifically at the role prescription drugs may have played in the singer’s death, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Various types of prescription drugs were reportedly recovered from Jackson's home by the detectives, including an anesthetic that's normally used during most surgical procedures. Furthermore, many of MiJac's physicians were contacted for their records, but it's still unclear whether any criminal charges will be filed until the final autopsy reports are revealed.

Joe Jackson has also expressed to ABC News that he has an interest having a "direct role in raising" Michael's three children.

LL COOL J RE-THINKS ALBUM RETIREMENT, "I'M NOT RUNNING AROUND LOOKING FOR A RECORD DEAL"

Hip-Hop mogul LL Cool J recently spoke on what music plans he has since releasing his final contractual Def Jam album last year and why he may return to the studio for another solo release in the future.

Appearing on "The View," LL explained how he still attains the fulfillment of releasing an album by touring and other ventures.
"Two things, first of all, making albums is a way of expressing my creativity," LL explained. "So I can express my creativity through business. I can express my creativity through my clothing line. I can express my creativity through the different ventures I have. I still wanna do live music and I still do live concerts so people will see me on tour. I'm just not running around looking for a record deal like 'Please listen to my demo.' [laughs] Like right now, that's not what I want to do right now."

NAS PROMISES "UNTITLED" FOLLOW-UP, "MY SH*T RIGHT NOW IS AGE-APPROPRIATE"

Nas has announced plans to release his tenth solo album and hinted at what fans could expect from its overall sound and content.

While keeping details to a minimum, the Queens, New York-bred emcee said the follow-up to 2008's Untitled would cater to what he observes.
"It's funny, drama is something that definitely kicks a fire underneath artists," he said in an interview. "But I try not to make that my focus. I'm trying to have peace and love. My sh*t right now is age-appropriate for myself. I love everything, most of the things that are going on musically. But my music will talk about what I see, how I see it, and it should be interesting. My last things were about what I felt about hip-hop and what I felt about race matters. This new thing will be a natural thing. I have a few things that I feel like doing, but who knows what it will be."

John Forte Marks Arrest Anniversary With New Album

Singer/songwriter and producer John Forte has chosen to commemorate the anniversary of his July 2000 arrest with the release of his first collection of new music to be released in nearly eight years.

Forte’s StyleFREE the EP will be available for purchase and streaming exclusively on JohnForte.com on July 14, exactly nine years after he was arrested on drug possession and conspiracy charges.

A physical and wide digital release of the project is set to follow in late August. The Grammy-nominated artist first emerged on the entertainment scene as a member of the Refugees Crew, producing, co-writing and appearing on The Fugees’ multi-platinum sophomore album The Score.

Following the album’s success, Forte landed a solo deal at Columbia Records, releasing his debut PolySci in 1998.

Unfortunately, due to lackluster promotional efforts, the album, which was critically well received, sold a meager 79,000 copies, leading Columbia to drop Forte from their roster.

According to an August 2002 Rolling Stone article, the artist had apparently developed a lavish lifestyle which he became unable to sustain, leading to his surprising foray into the drug trade.

While performing at a weekly DJ gig in Manhattan in 2000, Forte met 35-year-old drug dealer Chris Thompson, who he allegedly assisted by recruiting and overseeing drug couriers.

On July 12, Drug Enforcement Administration Agents arrested two young women in Harlingen, TX after discovering $1.4 million worth of liquid cocaine in their suitcases.

Two days later, DEA agents arrested Forte in New York after he took possession of the suitcases.

He has maintained that he was under the impression that he was helping Thompson transport money and not drugs.

While on a supervised release between his 2000 arrest and the beginning of his fourteen year sentence in 2002, Forte recorded I, John, which featured appearances by Herbie Hancock, Esthero, Tricky and Carly Simon, a close friend of Forte’s who even put up $250,000 of his $650,000 bond.

It was in part because of lobbying efforts by Simon and her son Ben Taylor that John Forte obtained a pardon from former President Bush in late 2008.

Since his release, John Forte has taken no time to jump back into the Hip-Hop scene, quickly adapting to the technological advances he missed while incarcerated to make his music available to new and old fans alike.

Almost immediately after coming home, he released three singles online, including the Talib Kweli-assisted “Homecoming.” Forte’s also embarked on a life of activism and teaching, joining the Harlem-based In Arms Reach initiative, which supports children of incarcerated parents.

StyleFREE the EP captures all of the varied experiences Forte has undergone in the last few years.

The title track is a throwback to Forte’s Brownsville, Brooklyn upbringing; while ballads like “More Beautiful Now” and “There We are” are more introspective.

The EP’s first single “Play My Cards For Me” is currently available at JohnForte.com for free download.

John Forte is also currently working on his memoirs, which will be published by Simon & Schuster upon completion.

Palin resigns as governor, leaves plans secret

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin abruptly announced Friday she is resigning from office at the end of the month, a shocking move that rattled the Republican party but left open the possibility she would seek a run for the White House in 2012.

Palin, 45, and her staff kept her future plans shrouded in mystery, and it was unclear if the controversial hockey mom would quietly return to private life or begin laying the foundation for a presidential bid.

Palin's spokesman, David Murrow, said the governor didn't say anything to him about this being her "political finale." He said he interpreted Palin's comment about working outside government as reflecting her current job only.

"She's looking forward to serving the public outside the governor's chair," he said.
