Prosecutors will not seek death penalty in slaying of Chauncey Bailey and two others linked to Your Black Muslim Bakery

OAKLAND — Prosecutors have decided not to seek the death penalty against former Your Black Muslim Bakery leader Yusuf Bey IV and another man for their alleged involvement in the 2007 killing of journalist Chauncey Bailey and two other men, a lawyer said Friday.

The decision was disclosed in the chambers of Superior Court Judge Morris Jacobson during a meeting of lawyers involved in the case, said attorney Duffy Carolan, who was present. Carolan represents the Chauncey Bailey Project, which is seeking to have grand jury transcripts in the case unsealed and a provisional gag order lifted.

A grand jury returned murder indictments with special circumstances against Bey IV and Antoine A. Mackey last month, making them eligible for the death penalty. Carolan said Assistant District Attorney Christopher Lamiero spoke of the decision during the meeting with Jacobson.

Lamiero is under a gag order in the case. So are Bey IV's two lawyers, Anne Beles and Lorna Brown, and Mackey's lawyer, Gary Sirbu. The order does not apply to Carolan.

"Lamiero said a committee met and the decided there will be no death penalty," Carolan said. Nothing was said about the decision in open court Friday when Bey IV and Mackey made brief appearances.

Jacobson postponed the arraignment of each for the third time. Arraignments are now scheduled for June 18, the same day as a hearing on a motion by the Chauncey Bailey Project to unseal grand jury testimony and lift the gag order.

Bey IV is charged with three counts of murder for allegedly ordering the killing of Bailey and two other men, Odell Roberson and Michael Wills. Mackey is charged with allegedly shooting Wills and helping a third defendant, Devaughndre Broussard, kill Bailey and Roberson.

Broussard pleaded guilty earlier this month to two counts of voluntary manslaughter, admitting he killed Roberson and Bailey. In exchange for his grand jury testimony and promise to also testify at trial, he is receive a sentence of 25 years.

Broussard was one of 15 witnesses who testified before the grand jury. The Chauncey Bailey Project, a consortium of news organizations and journalism nonprofits, will argue next month that the grand jury transcript be unsealed, Carolan said.

The transcript "is something the public should have access to. It's the only way for the public to understand if the state entered into a good deal" with Broussard, he said.

Bey IV's lawyers oppose the motion.

Broussard told Lamiero in a five-hour interview that precluded his grand jury testimony that Bey IV ordered him to kill Bailey to stop him from reporting on the bakery's finances in the Oakland Post. Broussard said Roberson was killed because he was related to the man convicted of killing Bey IV's older brother.

Mackey accompanied Broussard to both killings, Broussard said, and also admitted to shooting Wills at Bey's order.

Broussard was the only person charged in the Bailey killing for nearly 20 months until he agreed to testify against the others. Bey IV had been recorded while in custody saying that the Oakland Police detective assigned to the Bailey case, Sgt. Derwin Longmire, was protecting him from murder charges.

29-Year-Old Has 21 Kids With 11 Women

As if Octomom wasn’t bad enough, a Tennessee man, 29 year old Desmond Hatchett has now fathered at least 21 children he can’t support. Hatchett was in child support court again last week. His name appeared on the dockett 11 times in one day, representing 15 of his children.

Hatchett says he wasn’t out to set a record. He says he never intended to have this many children, “It just happened.” He fathered the children by at least 11 different women and he claims all of the mothers knew about his large family. The children range in age from newborn to 11 years old.

The question Knox County officials now face is how to support all these children. Hatchett works a minimum wage job and by law the state can only take 50% of his paycheck for child support. By the time that money is split 21 ways, some of the mothers get less than $2 per month. That leaves the taxpayers footing a large portion of the bill for these children.

C-Murder To Be Sentenced To 10 Years

Rapper C-Murder has pleaded no contest to attempted murder charges.

The rapper, whose real name is Corey Miller, plead out to two counts of attempted second-degree murder will be sentenced to 10 years in prison in a deal with the state at the recommendation of the prosecutor.

Miller will also receive credit for time served in jail since August 2001.

Miller’s trial began today and the 38-year-old rapper was accused of trying to shoot the owner of Club Raggs, a venue in Baton Rouge, and a bouncer at Plank Road nightclub in August 2001.

A no-contest plea is nearly the same as a guilty plea in criminal court, but does not mean an individual has admitted to guilt in a civil court case.

Black Harvard Student EXPELLED AFTER BOYFRIEND IS MURDERED

BOSTON (AP) — A black Harvard University senior who lives in the dorm where a campus visitor was fatally shot says school officials ordered her out of the building and told her she could not graduate, singling her out because of her race.
Chanequa Campbell, of New York, is a friend of the shooting suspect's girlfriend, another Harvard student, but has no connection to the suspect or the victim, her attorney, Jeffrey Karp, told The Associated Press.
She was ordered off campus Friday with little notice and without being told why, Karp said. She was allowed to gather only a few personal belongings from her room after receiving a no-trespassing order, he said.
"There is no citation to the student code, no citation to any law, no citation to any facts," he said.
Harvard spokesman Robert Mitchell said in a statement that the school does not comment on an individual student's status.
Campbell, a sociology major, lived in the dorm where 21-year-old Justin Cosby, a former Salem State College student, was killed May 18 in what authorities say was a drug-related robbery attempt. Jabrai Jordan Copney, a 20-year-old songwriter from New York City, has been charged with murder.
No one else has been charged in the case, but authorities are looking for two other men they think were involved in the confrontation.

Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone has said investigators also were looking at the involvement of Harvard students before and after the shooting.

Copney gained access to the Kirkland House dorm with an electronic card key given to him by a student, prosecutors said. That key did not come from Campbell, Karp said. Campbell was at an exam and at work the day of the shooting and lives in a part of the dorm far from the scene.

Copney is being held without bail after a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf on Friday in Cambridge District Court.
Karp said he did not know of any other student ordered off campus because of the shooting.
Campbell told The Boston Globe for a story Tuesday she believed she was being "singled out."
"The honest answer to that is that I'm black and I'm poor and I'm from New York and I walk a certain way and I keep my clothes a certain way," she said.

Karp said Campbell was not available for an interview Tuesday. He would not say whether she had returned to her Brooklyn home or whether she remained in the Boston area.
In a report last month, a panel convened to look into whether campus police unfairly stopped black people because of their race said more work needed to be done to create a welcoming environment at the school, where 11 percent of admitted students are black.

In 2004, police stopped and questioned a prominent black Harvard professor who matched a robbery suspect's description. Then, in 2007, police responding to noise complaints asked leaders of black student groups holding a field day on campus to show their Harvard IDs.

Last year, a black campus worker who lost his bicycle lock key said an officer drew a gun on him after he tried to cut the lock off.

Karp said Campbell has not been formally expelled, giving her hope that she would be able to attend the June 4 commencement.

"Our hope and prayer is that Harvard will reconsider and allow her to graduate," he said, adding later that Harvard has "made it clear that their position is intractable."

He also left open the possibility that Campbell may take the school to court.
Campbell fears her future has been put in jeopardy, her lawyer said.
"This has besmirched her academic reputation," Karp said.

AFRICAN NATION HAS A CONTROVERSIAL NEW PLAN TO FIGHT THE SPREAD OF AIDS … BY TATTOOING HIV POSITIVE PEOPLE ON THEIR BUTTOCKS!!!

We have learned that politicians is Swaziland are offering a controversial new plan to fight the spread of AIDS. One prominent legislator is suggesting a new law that would make it MANDATORY for everyone in the nation to get tested. And anyone who tests positive would have an AIDS tattoo on their buttocks.

According to MP Timothy Myeni, the scheme would help stop the spread of the killer disease by reducing sexual activity between HIV positive people and uninfected partners.

The legislator stated, “Before having sex with anyone, people will have to check their partners' buttocks before proceeding.”

Sounds like a pretty wacky idea to us…

JAY-Z CONFIRMS DEF JAM BUYOUT, "NOT EVERY ARTIST CAN SAY THEY OWN ALL THEIR MUSIC"

Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z has confirmed reports which claimed he has purchased the remainder of his business contract with Def Jam Records, including his unreleased Blueprint 3 album obligation.

Jigga kept details to a minimum, however, he did say a conversation with Def Jam executives has already taken place.
"I can honestly say, working with Doug Morris and LA Reid has been a unique and fulfilling experience and I respect them immensely," Jay said in an interview. "I've been in the family for almost my entire career. Doug and I spoke directly and had one of the most unique 'negotiations' ever. Doug won the toss but, we both won in the end...I thank him for allowing me to be a completely independent artist. Not every artist can say they own or are given the opportunity to own all of their music.

CASSIDY GOING TO GOSPEL? ???

Cassidy is looking to make some changes, I’m hearing. Personally, I thought that after his situation where the dude got killed and then the accident, I thought he’d go back to his normal self. That doesn’t seem to be the case. It would appear that Cass has adopted a more religious based rap style that leads people to believe that he’s becoming a gospel rapper. I think he’s actually committing to this gospel rap stuff. Then, there is the rumor about Amber Rose, Kanye’s girl. I wonder…if you know…what it feels…

EMINEM'S "RELAPSE" TO SELL 650K IN FIRST WEEK, NO. 1 ALBUM OF 2009

Eminem's long-awaited comeback album Relapse is reportedly en route to sell at least 650,000 copies its first week, which will make it the biggest first-week sales for 2009.

While an official count will not be ready for another week, one-day estimates predict Slim Shady will lead all sales by leaps and bounds.
He may be a homophobic, pill-popping, celeb-dissing misogynist, but there are at least 600-650k others who can relate to Eminem. That?s the number of people we estimate will pick up the Detroit hip-hop bad boy?s Relapse, his first album for Shady/Aftermath/Interscope in almost five years, based on reports from retailers across this great nation of ours who haven?t yet hung up a ?For Lease? sign. U2 bowed at #1 with 480k back in March. Def Jam/IDJ?s Method Man & Redman follows with 65-70k and Universal Motown?s iconic Busta Rhymes, reunited with former Elektra topper Sylvia Rhone, both at between 60-65k.

Sale of movie rights to Spielberg sparks new battle among King siblings

DreamWorks Studios’ announcement Tuesday that it plans a big-screen epic on the life of Martin Luther King Jr. quickly sparked a new battle among his three feuding children.

Dexter King, who lives in California, negotiated the sale of rights by the King estate for what he hopes will be “the definitive film” on his father’s life and legacy, he said in a press release.

But his brother and sister, Atlantans Martin Luther King III and Bernice King, said they only learned of the deal in an e-mail from him Tuesday morning as DreamWorks announced the film project.

They don’t consider the deal valid and plan to fight it, Bernice King said in an interview later Tuesday.

“We are taking action. We cannot reveal what it is at this time,” she said.

“Dexter King has entered into an agreement without approval of his shareholders,” she said. “It’s about Dexter King and the empire he is trying to build with Madison Jones.”

Jones, a longtime associate of Dexter King’s, and former Motown Records executive and film producer Suzanne de Passe worked on the deal with DreamWorks and heavyweight filmmaker Steven Spielberg, according to de Passe. Spielberg, Jones and de Passe would be co-producers.

De Passe, in a phone interview, declined to say how much the deal is worth.

Dexter King, 48, who could not be reached Tuesday, is the chief executive of the King estate. Martin Luther King III, 51, and Bernice King, 46, have been contending legally with him for months over its control and other issues.

De Passe said she was aware of ongoing legal fights between the three King siblings.

“But that has no real bearing on [the film],” de Passe said, a comment echoed by a DreamWorks spokeswoman.

Spielberg said in a DreamWorks press release he hoped to bring a movie “of undeniable power that we can all be proud of” to the screen.

De Passe said the next step will be hiring screenwriters, and that production could be two years away.

The three King siblings have gone to court in Georgia over control of the corporation that controls their parents’ legacy. That case revolves around papers of their mother, Coretta Scott King, that Dexter is trying to use for a biography and that Martin and Bernice King are trying to block.

Martin and Bernice King were also angered by a deal cut by Dexter King and a record companyfor recordings of their father.

Andrew Young, the former Atlanta mayor, diplomat and lieutenant of Martin Luther King Jr., said a movie by Spielberg — maker of “Schindler’s List” and “Saving Private Ryan,” among other films — might be the best way to tell the slain civil rights leader’s story.

“We’ve had few documentaries but we’ve never had a film that has the budget and the cinematography and the spirit that is capable of telling the King story,” Young said.

“His work was Dreamworks and we all grew up on his dream.”

Young also said such a film has been Dexter’s King’s longtime goal.

“Dexter has been single-minded in his pursuit of this effort … What he has been looking for is a major motion picture production.”

He said he thought Martin and Bernice King had better accepted that Dexter King was in control of at least this aspect of their father’s legacy.

“They have gotten a bad rap but they have given a bad rap to each other,” he said of the three children.

“I think Dexter is a loner. He would have been a hero if he had … continued the legacy by feeding the hungry or if he had gone into politics. But he has always thought he had the responsibility of communicating his father’s and mother’s legacy globally. I think the other two didn’t feel that way, and I could see both sides.”

“They are all accomplished in their own way but none of them are their father and we can’t expect them to be their father.”

Young said the film will have a hard time pleasing everyone.

“The problem is that nobody will like the movie in the Movement,” Young said. ” I don’t know who they can get to play Martin Luther King.”

T.I. Will Serve Majority Of Prison Sentence

Despite several reports to the contrary, rapper T.I. is still on track to spend approximately one year in prison when he enters the Forrest City Federal Correctional Complex’s low security facility next week.

Following a report by the Associated Press on Sunday (May 17), news spread across the internet and throughout the entertainment industry that the Atlanta entertainer would only serve two months of the 366-day sentence handed down in March in connection with his October 2007 arrest.

The reduced sentence was due to a credit for the 305 days of home confinement T.I.

However, Charysse Alexander, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia told MTV.com today that the credit has nothing to do with T.I.’s prison sentence.

At most, the rapper, born Clifford Harris, could see 15% of his sentence taken off for good behavior, reducing his sentence to 311 days.

The credit for home confinement will be applied to the 365 days of house arrest the rapper was set to serve after he completes his prison term, Alexander added.

As a result, he will spend two additional months in home confinement upon his release from Forrest City Low.

In an interview with the Associate Press, Forrest City spokesperson R.D. Weeks indicated that when T.I. joins the other 1,500 inmates currently being held at the facility, he will most likely be treated like any other prisoner.

Unless a custody or security concern is observed, he will be placed in general population, will share a double-bunked cell with another prisoner, and will have access to all inmate activities, including the recreation yard and counseling.

Trill CEO's Charged With Attempted Murder

ail has been set in the case of two Trill Entertainment rap music executives accused of attempting to murder Baton Rogue area rapper Beelow.

Melvin Vernell Jr. and Marcus Roach, CEO’s of Trill Entertainment, are accused of the July 4, 2005 shooting of rapper Bruce "Beelow" Moore in front of the store he owned, Shop Smart Music and Fashion.

Trill Entertainment is best known for putting out hit singles like “Independent” by Webbie and Lil Boosie.

Vernell Jr. and Roach were arrested and held without bond on May 8th, the second time they have been arrested and charged with attempted murder since the violent shooting.

Yesterday (May 19) a judge set bail at $350,000 each and issued strict orders for both men to remain under house arrest from 7PM - 7AM.

They were also ordered to stay away from victims, witnesses, family members and anyone who might testify against them.

“If you see any of these people in a grocery store, you better leave. If you see any of them on one side of the street, you better get on the other side of the street,’’ Judge Michael Erwin told Vernell and Roach. “If you so much as sneeze in their direction, I’m going to put you in jail.”

Both men are charged with attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, aggravated battery, armed robbery, aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of an illegal firearm by a convicted felon.

Beelow was shot in the head after a dispute erupted over his allegedly bootlegging music by popular artists from New Orleans.

Beelow, who survived the shooting, returned fire and shortly afterwards, was taken to Earl K. Long Medical Center in a private automobile and treated for his wounds.

Jagged Edge Inks Deal With Rap Label Slip-N-Slide Records

ndependent Hip-Hop label Slip-N-Slide has announced their signing of former Grammy winners and R&B chart-toppers Jagged Edge.

The four-man group was one of the more popular groups of the late 90s and early 2000s, dropping three gold (A Jagged Era, Hard, Jagged Edge) and two platinum albums (J.E. Heartbreak, Jagged Little Thrill) in a nine year span.

Now off of Island Def Jam, Slip-N-Slide president Ted Lucas is confident the group will regain their former status, and disclosed the collective is already at work on their seventh studio album.

“I’m excited to welcome Jagged Edge to the Slip-N-Slide Records family,” Lucas told AllHipHop.com. “They are one of the preeminent R&B groups of our time. They are going to pick up right where they left off and bring their fans some great new hit songs.”

The signing will allow Jagged Edge to retain their 581 Muzik label, which was utilized in creating the group’s last album, 2007’s Baby Makin’ Project.

As the first big name R&B group to sign to the label, longtime fans may be skeptical of Slip-N-Slide’s ability to properly promote Jagged Edge.

Twin brothers and Jagged members Brian and Brandon Casey do not share that concern, and declared that fans can expect them to launch a “new era” in R&B music next year.

“We are happy to embark on our collaboration between 581 Muzik Group and Slip-N-Slide Records,” brothers explained in a statement to AllHipHop.com. “They have been a dominating force in rap music and we have been a driving force in R&B Music. Together Ted Lucas and Jagged Edge will make for a groundbreaking 2010! Look out for our new album in 2010.”

At press time, Jagged Edge’s forthcoming Slip-N-Slide debut does not have a tentative release date or title.

JUSTICE FOR OSCAR GRANT!!!!

OAKLAND — Even though Oscar Grant III's family knew it was coming, the sound of former BART police Officer Johannes Mehserle's gun firing made them jump in their courtroom seats Monday and sparked tears as they watched two videos of Grant being killed.

The videos were the most riveting pieces of evidence presented Monday during the first day of a likely two-week-long preliminary hearing for Mehserle, who is charged with murdering Grant at the Fruitvale BART station Jan. 1.
Both videos captured the sound of Mehserle's gun firing; one shows the 27-year-old officer leaning over a prone Grant while pointing an object at Grant's back.

The women who recorded the videos, Karina Vargas and Margarita Carazo,
both said they thought the gunshot was the sound of a Taser, and did not know until the next day they had video of a man being killed by a police officer.

They began to record, both said, because they believed BART officers were acting too aggressively toward Grant and his friends, all of whom were pulled from a train at the Fruitvale station.

Grant never resisted arrest nor did he appear to act aggressively toward police, Vargas and Carazo testified.
Instead, the two women said, it was at least one BART officer, Anthony Pirone, who was the aggressor, yelling at passengers and throwing people against walls. In one video, Pirone was shown charging toward Grant, while Grant sat on the floor with his back against a wall.

Even though the BART train was filled to capacity with New Year's Eve revelers yelling and shouting, both women said the situation appeared to be under control until at least one BART officer, who appears to be Pirone, began acting aggressively toward Grant and his friends.

Pirone, the women said, charged at Grant, demanding the supermarket clerk get off the BART train. He then pushed the 22-year-old face first into a wall, the women testified.

"I heard an officer directing Oscar Grant and his friends to get (off the train). He was yelling at them, 'Get the (expletive) off the car. Get the (expletive) off the car,'"‰" Vargas said. "He was yelling at them; it was obvious he was angry."
Carazo said she began to record the events when she saw an officer grab Grant by the shoulders and throw him from the train.
"I thought it was wrong what the officer was doing. Oscar wasn't doing anything wrong; he wasn't fighting back or anything," Carazo said. "He didn't do anything, he was just standing there."

Victims, suspects identified in Berkeley homicide, Oakland fatal crash

BERKELEY — The homicide victim who was shot and killed Saturday night, setting off a chain of events that left two innocent men dead, has been identified as Charles "Chill" Davis, a 25-year-old college student who recently had returned to Berkeley from Central State University in Ohio to help care for a grandmother, police and relatives said Monday.
Davis, who also went by "C.J.," was a Berkeley High School graduate, said his mother, Corinne Davis, of Berkeley.
Two men wanted in connection with the killing remained at large Monday, but police have released the names of two men who were arrested on suspicion of three counts each of murder: Stephon Anthony, 22, of San Leandro, and Anthony Price, 24, of Oakland. Police said they found two assault rifles in the Cadillac that was driven by Stephon Anthony.
The events started Saturday about 6:40 p.m. when the shooters opened fire with assault weapons on Davis at 10th Street and Allston Way in West Berkeley, killing him instantly, police said.
The four men fled the scene in a Cadillac, with Berkeley police in pursuit, from West Berkeley to North Oakland, police said. The suspects were traveling at a high speed eastbound on Aileen Street in Oakland when they ran a stop sign, hitting a Mazda heading southbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Way near Children's Hospital Oakland, police said.
The Mazda's driver was identified Monday as 27-year-old Todd Perea, of Brentwood. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash caused Perea's Mazda to strike a 41-year-old Berkeley man on the sidewalk in front of Children's Hospital's research institute. The man was taken to Highland Hospital, where he died, police said. His identity has not been released, police said.
Police spent Saturday night and Sunday searching the area for the two suspects, who fled on foot.
Corinne Davis said her son's killing had to be a case of mistaken identity.
"As long as (the two other suspects) are on the streets, they are going to come back to Berkeley, because C.J. is not the one they were looking for," Davis said.
She said she heard the same men were in the victim's neighborhood about two weeks ago walking down San Pablo Avenue with automatic weapons near a store called Low Cost Liquor.

T.I.'S PRISON SENTENCE REDUCED, HE'LL SERVE ONLY 2 MONTHS IN JAIL!!!

We had been hearing rumblings for weeks about rapper T.I.’s prison sentence. Well apparently he’s gonna be out in about half a minute.

Here’s what the Associated Press had to say:
The rapper, the self-proclaimed "King of the South," had faced a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each charge in his three-count indictment.

Harris will be credited for 305 days of home detention he already has served after being charged, so his stay at the Forrest City prison likely will be only two months.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK: SAN QUINN

Unstoppable and blessed with talent; the world was introduced to a star, San Quinn (Quincy Brooks IV), on October 24 th,1977. Born in Oakland, CA and growing up on the forcible streets of Fillmore, Quinn looked to writing and rapping to prevent trouble from knocking down his door. Quinn's neighborhood, no stranger to many known faces, such as: Rappin 4-Tay, JT the Bigga Figga, Seff Tha Gaffla, D-Moe, Hugh-E-MC, Messy Marv, and Andre Nickatina, was where he got his start and
has come to be known as a living legend.
Lyrically deadly and a king in the rap game, Quinn got his start when introduced to the industry by JT the Bigga Figga, founder of Get Low Records. Gucci Mane Off Big Cat; Signs With Warner

Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane has confirmed his signing of a new recording contract with Warner Bros. Records.

The move effectively ends Gucci’s long-standing professional relationship with Big Cat Records.

Yesterday (May 12), the independent label released Murder Was the Case, a collection of songs Gucci Mane recorded before 2007, including “Stoopid” and “Runnin-Back Gittin Fat.”

Although Gucci is grateful for the support his previous label provided during his 2005 murder acquittal and 2006 incarceration, the trap rapper made it clear that he does not endorse the Big Cat project nor considers it an official LP.

"I am no longer signed to, booked by, or working with Big Cat Records or any of its employees in any way,” Gucci Mane told AllHipHop.com in a prepared statement. “The CD that Big Cat is putting out consists of records that were never planned to make my album and is a non-official release. My fans will get the official Gucci Mane album in August on Warner Bros. Records.”

Gucci’s first album was the independent hit Trap House, which was powered by the Young Jeezy collaboration “Icy.”

The song proved so popular that both rappers briefly feuded over ownership of the track.

Gucci continued on with 2006’s Hard to Kill, and 2007’s Back to the TrapHouse.

In the last two years, he has remained a draw due to a prodigious amount of mixtapes, such as The Movie ( DJ Drama), Wilt Chamberlain (DJ Rell), Trap Happy, Boldercrest Shawty (DJ Rell), Bird Money, and many others.

At press time, Gucci Mane is finalizing his summer album, and will appear on an upcoming of XXL magazine cover.

RAZ-B TO WORK WITH R. KELLY???????

Rick Ross Explanation On Shades

Florida rap star Rick Ross is hitting back at reports that the Louis Vuitton’s claims that the sunglasses he wore on the cover were fake by producing the designer.

According to Ross, the sunglasses worn on the cover of the May 2009 issue of XXL Magazine were customized with solid gold accents by Jacob Bernstein, AKA “The Sunglasses Pimp.”

"It’s the same thing as buying a Rolls Royce and having it tricked out; just because the product has been customized by me doesn’t take away from the fact that the frames are authentic Louis Vuitton Millionaires," Bernstein told AllHipHop.com.

Ross appears on the cover of the May 2009 issue of XXL Magazine wearing a pair of Louis Vuitton - like frames.

Controversy erupted yesterday (May 11), when a representative for Louis Vuitton issued a statement disassociating itself with XXL Magazine and Rick Ross over the glasses.

“We were dismayed to see the cover of the May 2009 issue of XXL Magazine, which features a photo of Rick Ross wearing a pair of sunglasses prominently featuring counterfeit Louis Vuitton trademarks,” stated Louis Vuitton Malletier Michael D. Pantalony. “Because the photo has generated considerable confusion among your readers and Louis Vuitton customers among others, we feel it is important to clarify several points.”

“The first is that the sunglasses Mr. Ross is wearing were not made by Louis Vuitton, and in fact, are counterfeit,” Pantalony clarified. “Louis Vuitton did not grant permission to Mr. Ross or to whoever did make the sunglasses to use our trademarks. The second is that no affiliation, sponsorship or association exists between Rick Ross or XXL and Louis Vuitton. The third is that counterfeiting is illegal.”

Bernstein, who was responsible for Ross’ customized shades, is well known in the world of fashion via his Los Angeles - based business, Jack’s Eyewear.

Bernstein has customized sunglasses for a number of actors and entertainers, including Jay-Z, Kanye West, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Sharon Stone, Fergie, Gwen Stefani, Brad Pitt, Usher and numerous others.

Chauncey Bailey's Killer Pleads Guilty

The prosecution's key witness in the murder case against Your Black Muslim Bakery leader Yusuf Bey IV pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of voluntary manslaughter for allegedly carrying out Bey's orders to shoot Oakland journalist Chauncey Bailey and a homeless man whose nephew killed Bey's brother.

He struck a deal with prosecutors to secure his testimony against Bey and Antoine Mackey, another bakery figure. Both men face potential death sentences if convicted of murder for the 2007 deaths of Bailey and two other men, Odell Roberson Jr. and Michael Wills.

Broussard was arrested Aug. 3, 2007, the day after Bailey was shot to death on a downtown Oakland street, and was soon charged with the Oakland Post editor's slaying. He gave a five-hour statement to prosecutors in March and last month he testified for two days before a grand jury, which proceeded to indict Bey and Mackey.

According to Broussard, Bey wanted Bailey killed because the journalist's reporting had contributed to the 2003 death of Bey's father, bakery founder Yusuf Bey, and because Bailey was working on a story about the Oakland group's internal and financial problems.

Mackey allegedly drove the getaway van when Bailey was shot. He is suspected of having been with Broussard when Roberson was killed and of having pulled the trigger in the Wills killing, which Bey also allegedly ordered.

If he testifies truthfully against Bey and Mackey, prosecutors say, Broussard will be given a 25-year term. Had he been convicted of murdering Bailey, he would probably have been sentenced to 50 years to life.

Bailey's father, sister and other relatives watched the court session and left without commenting.

Broussard's mother, Aundra Dixon, also was there and said later that she stood by her son. She also said, however, that she was shocked that he had finally admitted to her that he shot Bailey.

"I felt he was being responsible, taking responsibility for what he'd done," she said. "As a mother, I'm hurt."

TI GIVES ALPHAMEGA THE BOOT!!!! SAYS YOU'RE FIRED!!!

MediaTakeOut.com told you a few days ago that, in the past, Grand Hustle artist Alpha Mega testified as a federal informant against his associates. Now, TI is speaking out on the matter.

Here’s TI’s official statement:

I am stunned and totally surprised by the news about Alfa “Ced Zellars” mega (Ced Zellars). Even though all of our artist and employees are asked by us to be honest and open about their past history, at no time did Alfa disclose to me or Grand Hustle what is now appeared in the media.

He essentially deceived us by failing to fully disclose the truth about his past and there is no place in our organization for dishonest and misleading behavior. As I have always said, you must take responsibility for your own actions.

We at Grand Hustle cannot support or condone blaming others for our own mistakes. I hope and pray that God blesses Ced in his plans, but I don't forsee me or my company playing a role in his personal or professional business.

The End.

RICK ROSS NEW 50 CENT DISS "HEAD OF FLORIDA"

T.I. ASSOCIATE ALFAMEGA WORKED AS DEA INFORMANT, LEAKED RECORDS ID RAPPER

According to a report from The Smoking Gun, Grand Hustle's Alfamega worked with the DEA in the mid-1990's.
Court records show that Zellars began working with law enforcement officials after he was sentenced in September 1995 to 110 months in a federal gun case (Zellars, who had a prior felony robbery conviction, was collared for selling weapons to an undercover federal agent). Zellars "agreed to cooperate with authorities and was debriefed" about the criminal activity of several individuals. "In particular he was debriefed concerning the drug trafficking activities of a Mr. Ali Baaqar," according to a government court filing. During his cooperation against Baaqar, Zellars met with a DEA agent and a federal prosecutor, and subsequently testified at trial. "Ali Baaqar was convicted of conspiracy to distribute heroin based upon the trial testimony of [Zellars] and others." In return for his snitching, Zellars had 18 months shaved off his prison term when he was resentenced in July 1997 by Judge J. Owen Forrester.

While the topic of snitching is taken seriously within the hip-hop community, T.I. previously addressed detractors who called him a snitch for appearing in an ATL Crime Stoppers PSA last year.
"I ain't trippin'," Tip said. "Can't nobody challenge my integrity...I ain't told nobody to go and get yourself in trouble and tell on somebody to get yourself out of trouble. I said man, if there's an old lady walking down the street and you see her getting knocked down and beat up, call somebody and do something about it. I don't see that as snitching man, I see that as being responsible for your neighborhood. Anybody who disagree, so be it. They can shove it up they a** sideways if they don't like it. I don't care."

However, Bang Bang Boogie's Mysonne said Tip's actions were not justified.
"Any time a n*gga that advocates that he is the king, that he is the streets, that he is a trap star, that he glorified how he got here, that he grinded and he never did this and all this sh*t any time a n*gga do that and he get up here and make a Crime Stoppers commercial, them n*ggas made you sell your soul," Mysonne said in a video. "The police utilized you. They took you and made you a motherf*cking tool."

Alfa previously reached out to SOHH to speak about his upcoming debut album and how he linked with Tip.
"I got with Tip, we did a handshake deal, never signed no contracts or nothing," Alfamega explained. "The Capitol deal came about because me and him had a discussion about me being as big as he is and it wouldn't be feasible to either one of us to go through Atlantic." T.I. helped the rapper secure a deal with Capitol Records through his own label, Grand Hustle.

BirdMan Says He Will Kiss Lil Wayne Any Day! "Thats My Son. Ill Do It Today & Tomorrow

ICE-T READIES NEW RECORD LABEL

"I'm starting a digital label through EMI," he explained. "I'm trying to get back to more hip hop. To me, music right now is like disco. It's very sing-songy, and nobody's dealing with content. That's what I miss. I miss Tupac and Big. You got Lupe Fiasco and T.I now, but in general, we're swamped with bubblegum pop...We signed about five groups. We've got an artist from L.A., a group called Certified from Washington State, Born Twice from Houston and a Korean kid from New York. I'm playing the whole map."

THE REAL RICK ROSS IS COMING HOME!!!!!!!

Just as superstar rapper Rick Ross is celebrating the release of his new album Deeper Than Rap, the real Rick Ross will be celebrating his release from prison next week.

AllHipHop.com has confirmed that “Freeway” Ricky Ross, the drug king pin who was at the center of a CIA cocaine-dealing scandal, will officially be released from prison on Monday (May 4).

Ross oversaw a Los Angeles based, multi-state drug operation in the early 1980’s, which earned upwards of $2 million dollars per day at its height.

In 1996, Ross was sentenced to life in prison, after he attempted to purchase over 100 kilos of cocaine from an undercover federal agent.

Ross’ sentence was later reduced through appeals and after a series of explosive articles by the late Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Gary Webb.

Webb wrote a series titled “Dark Alliance” for the San Jose Mercury News, which exposed the C.I.A.’s role in importing cocaine into black communities to fund Contra fighters in Nicaragua, as part of the Iran-Contra scandal.

Ross is currently working on a book and film and is seeking deals for both projects.

Additionally, AllHipHop.com has learned that Ross will officially enter the music business, via a new record label with industry veteran Wendy Day.

Ross filming a reality show that will track his release from his prison in Texarkana, Texas to a halfway house in California.

Along the way, Ross will talk with incarcerated youth in detention centers.

Ross’ colorful, yet tragic life has been the subject of numerous rappers’ rhymes throughout the years, from Brooklyn rapper Mos Def, to Los Angeles rapper The Game.

The #1 rapper in the country is Carol City, Florida native Rick Ross, born William Roberts, whose album Deeper Than Rap is topped the Billboard Top 200 this week.

"After seeing all the stuff that has been going on with the Correctional Officer (William Roberts) that stole my name, [it] makes me think back to a year and a half ago when we spoke,” Freeway Ricky Ross explained to AllHipHop.com in a previous interview. “I tried to talk to him like a big brother and let him know to be you, and that he couldn’t be me.”

Roberts has repeatedly denied that he has based his entire rap persona off of the real Rick Ross, to the latter’s chagrin.
